Sensitive and Dry Skin

While completely different conditions, sensitive and dry skin present a similar problem to the act of  shaving: how to cut whiskers while minimizing or preferably eliminating irritation to the skin.

Dry skin is most likely to be caused by the environment. For example, it happens almost exclusively in winter. According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common causes of dry skin are cold weather, exposing your skin to hot water, swimming in chlorinated pools, and heat that reduces humidity, such as central air, fireplaces, wood burning stoves, or space heaters.

There's a lot more information on dry skin at this link:

With regards to shaving, a dry skin condition can be dealt with typically by using a skin friendly moisturizer and a razor. Of course we recommend Old Post Road shaving soap. We think that's the most skin-friendly shaving lubricant you can use. Especially when followed up with our after shave. The after shave is extremely good for skin, containing aloe vera oil, jojoba oil, and just a touch of olive oil. It absorbs quickly into the skin and nourishes the skin with critical fatty acids. The Jojoba oil provides oil to the skin that is almost exactly the same as the oil the body naturally produces. You can't get much better than that.

Sensitive skin is a whole different situation. It is usually a manifestation of a malady the body is dealing with. That manifestation can be relatively light, or quite serious. Skin is the body's largest organ, and the large-scale exposure to the environment can result in allergic reaction to external substances.

Treating sensitive skin is typically a long term affair, and may require prescription medication. With regards to shaving, serious sensitive skin is best shaved using an electric razor with a very good moisturizer.

For a good review on electric razors, we recommend this link:

There are a lot of choices to make and individual preferences to satisfy in selecting an electric razor. More information is better than less.

Using an electric razor with our shaving soap is the best combination we can think of for sensitive skin. Especially with our after shave. We recommend  a wet electric razor and Old Post Road shaving soap followed by our after shave as the very best, closest, most comfortable shave you can have for sensitive skin. It works wonders.
