Foam is a poor lubricant. It's mostly air! Foam has driven razor manufacturers to create two, three, four and now even five blade razors! Foam is not just a poor lubricant; it impacts the environment. Cans use butane, isobutane, and propane to dispense the foam. It's not necessary to add those gasses to the air 100 million times each morning. Additionally, used cans of foam have to be discarded into landfills. Each year some 300+ million cans of shaving foam are thrown away. That's an unnecessary waste. So called 'gels' are no different from foam. By the time you put the razor against your skin, what may have come out of the can as a gel substance has turned to foam, and you're back to a poor foam shave using mostly air to lubricate with.
